1.2 Taking the service in use
There are different ways of taking the Svea Payments’ payment service in use. Some have integrated for example a completely automated service subscription process.
Unless your web store is part of a larger entity with an automated or customized boarding process, you can start by contacting our sales team here: Maksupalvelu verkkokauppaan | Svea and we will get back to you so that you plan the best service for your needs. If you already know what you’re looking for, you can also go ahead and subscribe to our service here: Tilaa maksupalvelupaketti | Verkkokauppa ja myymälä .
After subscribing to our service, we need to ask for some basic information about your business in order to comply with applicable law. This information includes for example some required Know Your Customer information, which is especially important when doing distance business. Svea Payments Oy is a payment institution operating under the supervision of the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority.
The contract is usually signed electronically using the Signicat service. Our customer’s industry must be accepted both within the law and Svea Payments’ internal standards. In order to take some payment methods in use, such as card payments and invoicing, the customer also needs an approved credit decision. All this is handled by our customer service after the subscription.

2 Payments and payment methods
The customer can choose which payment methods to take in use. Money transfers go through Svea Payments’ customer reserve accounts (excl. technical payment methods) from which money can be settled to the customer’s bank account according to the agreed settlement model. The payment method selection and payment process can be modified, if needed. All user interfaces for buyers are responsive taking into account mobile use.
2.1 Online bank payments
We offer online bank payments for all the usual Finnish banks: Nordea, OP Bank, Danske Bank, Aktia, Handelsbanken, POP Bank, Savings Banks, S-Bank, Ålandsbanken and Oma Savings Bank.
Online bank payments are still the most popular payment method in Finland. Online bank payments are changing due to mobile payments, Open Banking technology and the development of new identification methods, improving the user experience. Our payment service includes all the usual Finnish banks’ online payments, and no separate agreements with different banks are needed.
2.2 Credit and debit cards
Svea Payments’ payment service enables card payments: Visa and Mastercard debit and credit, Visa Electron and Business Eurocard. Svea Payments is a PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment institution. We follow the PSD2 Payment Service Directive for card payments.
It is also possible to use card payments (incl. American Express) as technical payment methods through Svea Payments’ technical interface, with a direct agreement between the customer and the acquirer.
2.2.1 Recurring and one click payments
Svea Payments’ payment service also enables one click and recurring payments. One click payments are easy payments within an application, where the user saves their card information in the application once, and can use that card for quick payments in the application. With recurring payments, the seller can charge the payer’s card in certain intervals, for example in connection to standing others.
2.2.2 Chargebacks and risks related to card payments
Card payments can involve a higher risk of fraud. It is good to monitor the card payment activity in the web store, read more here (in Finnish): Korttimaksut | Korttimaksujen riskit .
Chargebacks can occur, if the payer disputes the payment and demands a refund from the card issuer. Some chargebacks can be opposed, in which case Svea Payments will guide the customer through the process. If the chargeback stands, it will be charged from the web store.
2.3 Invoice and part payment for consumers & B2B invoice
Svea offers invoice and part payment as payment methods for consumers, and B2B invoice for companies. The pricing is transparent and includes everything in the payment process; invoicing, reminders and possible debt collection. Svea carries the credit risk, and the web store gets paid in any case. Orders can be delivered immediately and Svea Payments will settle the money for such payments according to the chosen settlement model, regardless of when or if the buyer pays their invoice.
We also offer different campaigns and a part payment calculator to boost sales.
For B2B invoice, we have developed a Purchase Rights Register, which enables registering purchase rights for persons, who are not official signatories of the buying company. This makes it easier and safer to make online purchases. It is also possible to set purchase limits for buyers. Taking the Purchase Rights Register in use and adding purchase rights is quick and easy, you can read more here (in Finnish): Yrityslasku | Osto-oikeusrekisteri | Svea .
2.4 Mobile payments
Svea Payments offers the mobile payment methods Mobilepay and Siirto
A large number of buyers make online purchases using a mobile device, which makes it important to offer easy mobile payments as well. Mobile payments are becoming increasingly popular, and the ”swipe to pay” method makes online payments very convenient for the user. Mobile payments can be easily activated in the web store’s service and don’t require additional technical work. We don’t charge additional fixed fees for mobile payments, only the agreed transaction fees.
2.5 International payment methods
PayPal and American Express with the customer’s own contract.
It is possible to use Svea Payments’ technical interface for PayPal and American Express payments, but this requires a direct contract between the customer and the payment service provider (PayPal or card acquirer).
2.6 Modifications in the payment process
From a usability point of view, it is recommended to display the available payment methods on the web store’s checkout page. This means, that the web store should use our interface for retrieving available payment methods – by using this interface, the payment methods shown at checkout are always up to date.
Svea Payments responds immediately when a payment event is successfully paid. We also offer an interface for quering the payment status, which is recommended, because sometimes the payment can be interrupted for some reason, and through this interface the web store can still get notification of a successful payment.
Our callback function will send a notification automatically, when a payment event’s status is updated to ’successful’, but in order to use this function, the web store has to know how to handle call backs. Read more: Callback functions.
If the payment method is not chosen in the web store, but on Svea Payments’ payment method selection page, it’s also possible to visually customize the page with the customer’s brand; logo and colours.
3 Return handling
Svea Payments offers different tools for return handling and refunds. Our tools can also be customized according to the web store’s needs.
Payments can be refunded in full or in part, and using either our Extranet service or the technical interface. The service model defines if returns can be made by only the web store or also by the buyer, and which payment methods can be refunded. In any case, refunds are always made to the original payment method that the buyer used.
3.1 Buyer’s Assistant
Svea Payments’ Buyer’s Assistant is an online platform for buyers. It’s not mandatory, you can use our refund tools without Buyer’s Assistant, but it is a value-added service. Through Buyer’s Assistant buyers can for example track their order and report returns. The web store can then easily accept the return in our Extranet service, and with the press of a button Svea Payments will refund the payment to the buyer.
Some benefits of the Buyer’s Assistant:
Reduces contacts to customer service
Makes reporting returns easier for buyers
Makes refunds easier for the web store
The web store gets notification of an upcoming return in advance
The reclamation function can reduce the amount of returns by giving the web store the opportunity to make reimbursements when needed
A better customer experience
Mobile responsive, works with any device
Can be customized according to the web store’s visual brand
4 Money settlements and reporting
After a successful payment, the buyer’s payment is transferred to Svea Payments’ customer assets account, from which payments are settled to the web store’s bank account according to an agreed settlement model. It is possible to use the web store’s original reference number for (transaction-specific) settlements. We provide reports for settlements as well as receivables.
Our settlement models include:
Transaction-based settlements, net or gross
Bundled settlements, net or gross
Balance based settlements
Settlements to multiple parties: dual settlement or multivendor
5 Extranet
Our Extranet is made for the web store’s use. In Extranet you can for example:
Manage orders: add delivery info, renew credit decisions, make refunds, communicate with buyers and handle returns
Download settlement reports as well as reports on receivables
Monitor your web store’s conversion rate
View statistics related to payments
Print out your own invoices for the payment service
Update business and web store information
Get materials such as payment method banner, part payment calculator etc.
